Google temporarily paused the rollout of its AI-powered 'Ask Photos' feature in Google Photos due to user complaints about reliability and slow response times. After addressing these issues, the company has improved the feature by integrating it with classic search capabilities for simple queries. This integration allows for quicker responses while the AI processes more complex searches in the background. Users can still access classic search, and the service has now resumed its rollout across the U.S.
Google Photos product manager Jamie Aspinall acknowledged that "Ask Photos isn't where it needs to be, in terms of latency, quality and ux," prompting a temporary pause in its rollout.
In a recent blog post, Google emphasized incorporating the efficiency of classic search into Ask Photos for simple queries, which enhances speed while AI refines complex searches.
