GOG Caught Using AI-Generated Artwork
"Likely in response to the hubbub surrounding the AI-generated banner, KosmicznaPluskwa, a GOG forums user who appears to be a graphic artist working at the company, posted a lengthy response on the store's forums on January 26. And while KosmicznaPluskwa made it clear they aren't a spokesperson for GOG, the artist confirmed that the image people were speculating was machine-created was indeed generated completely using AI tools, something that upset the artist."
"KosmicznaPluskwa continued in their lengthy forum post and discussed how AI art is everywhere now and how it makes them sad to see. "It's just miserable to think about how surrounded and how ever-present it all is now," said KosmicznaPluskwa. "How will it affect us as the humanity. And no, I don't think it will destroy art altogether but the omnipresence of it will not not go without its effect on us as a whole. Maybe it"
Good Old Games used AI-generated artwork for a 2026 sale banner, noticed by users because a SNES-like console in the image appeared to be melting. Reddit and GamingOnLinux users posted the banner and criticized the choice given GOG's stated focus on preservation and creators. A graphic artist at GOG using the handle KosmicznaPluskwa confirmed the banner was generated completely with AI tools and said the decision upset them. The artist noted the team is smaller and role requirements have changed. Kotaku contacted GOG but received no response. The artist described AI art as omnipresent and expressed concern about its effects on art and humanity.
