OpenEuroLLM is an ambitious €37.4 million consortium involving 20 European institutions focused on developing multilingual large language models. The primary goal is to create competitive, compliant, and open-source AI technologies tailored to European data, enhancing digital sovereignty. Co-led by prominent figures from academia and private industry, this initiative seeks to facilitate access to high-quality AI for commercial and public services while fostering collaboration with open science communities. The model is designed to support 35 languages, ensuring broad applicability across Europe.
