Elon Musk wants this California AI safety bill to pass
Briefly

"This is a tough call and will make some people upset, but, all things considered, I think California should probably pass the SB 1047 AI safety bill," Musk wrote. "For over 20 years, I have been an advocate for AI regulation, just as we regulate any product/technology that is a potential risk to the public."
"As AI technology continues its rapid improvement, it has the potential to provide massive benefits to humanity. We can support that innovation without compromising safety, and SB 1047 aims to do just that," said Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), who co-authored the bill.
"By focusing its requirements on the well-resourced developers of the largest and most powerful frontier models, SB 1047 puts sensible guardrails in place against risk while leaving startups free to innovate without any new burdens."
SB 1047 would require some of the largest AI models-those that cost at least $100 million-to be developed with mandatory reporting for intelligence safety issues, as well as requiring them to submit reports assessing the risks associated with their models.
