The incentive was tied to improving Grok’s capabilities ahead of the April 15 US tax deadline. Employees were reportedly asked to provide completed tax filings and supporting documents from the current or prior year. Some employees provided the data, but months passed without the promised $420 payment. Staffers reportedly asked about the bonus and learned the manager running the program had left the company. xAI has not responded to the report. The $420 amount is linked to a long-running weed reference associated with Elon Musk.
