Crypto entrepreneur raises 750m for Britain's biggest AI data centre
"I'll go on record as to say I'm the best thing that's ever happened to him,"
"rapidly accelerate the build-out of secure, compliant and energy-efficient AI infrastructure"
"Europe needs a hyperscaler, and Nscale is rising to the challenge."

Josh Payne's start-up Nscale, founded 18 months ago, secured more than £750m from investors including Nvidia, Nokia and Aker to build Britain’s largest AI data centre in Essex with Microsoft collaboration. The funding implies an approximate $3bn valuation and underpins plans to buy Nvidia AI chips and develop a global network of energy-efficient AI facilities. Nscale intends to convert former cryptocurrency-mining sites into data centres and to open 'Stargate' AI hubs with OpenAI starting in Newcastle. Additional backers include Fidelity, Blue Owl, Sandton Capital, G Squared, Point72, T.Capital and Dell.
