Apple will reportedly open up its local AI models to third-party apps
Briefly

Apple is set to allow developers access to its large language models that power Apple Intelligence AI features through a software development kit (SDK). Starting with smaller on-device models, this move is similar to Google's planned Gemini Nano AI APIs. Developers will be able to integrate AI Writing Tools and Image Playground features, although access to cloud models will remain restricted initially. The official announcement is anticipated during Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9th, where significant updates to their operating systems are also expected.
Apple is planning to open up its large language models for developers to use in their apps, starting with smaller on-device models via a software development kit.
Third-party developers could utilize limited features of Apple Intelligence, such as AI Writing Tools and the Image Playground generator in their applications.
The SDK will initially not provide access to Apple's cloud-based models and is not expected to significantly alter AI applications using independent models.
Apple aims to highlight the new access during the WWDC event on June 9th, coinciding with an expected iOS, macOS, and iPadOS overhaul.
