Anthropic's Claude chatbot has added a web search feature that autonomously determines when to fetch relevant information from the internet for accurate answers. This feature, currently available to U.S. users of the Claude 3.7 Sonnet model, stands out by automatically integrating web search results without requiring user input. Users receive both an initial answer and an updated response after Claude fetches real-time data, which is particularly advantageous given the model's training data cutoff in October 2024. This contrasts with other chatbots like ChatGPT, which may not always trigger web searches when necessary to provide current information.
What sets Anthropic's web search feature apart is that it is automatic. Rather than requiring users to manually select a web search, Claude decides on its own.
Claude now generates an initial answer from its training data and then states: '... but let me search for more precise information since this could have changed.'
