Amazon has unveiled its new AI-driven warehouse robot, Vulcan, capable of picking and stowing around 75% of items in its warehouses. Unlike previous robots, Vulcan features touch sensitivity which allows for dexterous handling of objects, including rearranging items within storage compartments. Equipped with advanced force sensors and AI-powered cameras, Vulcan minimizes the risk of damage and improves efficiency. Operational in Spokane and Hamburg, it has already processed over half a million orders, enhancing worker safety by reducing the need for human intervention in cumbersome tasks.
Vulcan represents a fundamental leap forward in robotics, enabling capabilities that were impossible for Amazon robots until now.
AI is integrated throughout Vulcan's systems, allowing it to learn from its own failures and become more capable over time.
Vulcan can handle roughly three-quarters of items in Amazon's warehouses, previously tasks performed mainly by human workers.
Vulcan has already processed half a million orders, saving human workers from bending down or fetching ladders.
