""This, unfortunately, also means saying goodbye to some talented colleagues in these areas," Snorkel AI said."
""We are grateful for their contributions and are supporting them through this transition. These changes allow us to focus our energy on the areas where we can have the greatest impact and better serve the evolving needs of our customers.""
""deprioritizing some legacy areas of our business.""
Snorkel AI, a Stanford-spun startup valued at $1.3 billion after a $100 million Series D, cut 31 of its 240 employees, roughly 13% of the workforce. The company attributed the reductions to a strategic shift toward a data-as-a-service business and said it is deprioritizing legacy areas. Software engineering roles were hit hardest, with 13 engineers terminated, while most AI-focused positions were spared. Snorkel AI launched in 2020 to automate data labeling and connect models to human expertise, and counts partners such as Google and Anthropic. The company said it is supporting affected employees through the transition.
