Zohran Mamdani wore a bright Arsenal FC kurta during a Wednesday Eid al-Adha event. He chose a long blue-and-black jersey style with red sleeve stripes and the sponsor slogan “Emirates Fly Better.” As New York City’s first Muslim mayor, he connected Eid al-Adha themes of sacrifice and charity to his political ideology. He posted that sacrifice is not a burden but an opportunity to see oneself as part of something larger and to extend help to those who need it most. He said he is determined to lead through solidarity and work to ensure New Yorkers can afford groceries, housing, and child care. He added that solidarity is strength.
"The robe that Mamdani wore appears to be an Arsenal away kit jersey from last year modified into a kurta, a tunic-style garment. Hizzoner's flamboyant fashion choice also recalled the much-mocked custom, Star of David-emblazoned robe that his predecessor Eric Adams wore to a Rosh Hashanah event last year."
