Nwaneri initially made headlines when he made his Arsenal debut as a substitute against Brentford in September 2022. At 15 years and 181 days old, he became the youngest player in both Arsenal and Premier League history, receiving substantial media coverage.
If he was to receive a promotion to the first team at the age of 17, this would no doubt prompt plenty more media coverage of the teenager. At such a young age, this can be largely unwanted and cause distraction, mounting added pressure on Nwaneri.
Away from the media side of the sport, plenty of players have previously struggled with the step up from academy to first team football.
