Apple's Activation Lock feature for iOS 18 prevents the use of stolen iPhone parts, ensuring that components are permanently linked to the original device owner. Announced in April, this feature aims to address law enforcement concerns regarding the black market for stolen parts. This system requests the original owner's Apple ID and password for any second-hand component, securing the device's integrity from unauthorized use.
As iOS 18 approaches its official launch on September 16, Activation Lock has been confirmed through user testing of the Release Candidate version. This feature significantly enhances the security of iPhones by preventing unauthorized access or utilization of stolen parts. Testing revealed that if an iPhone owner attempts to replace a component with one acquired second-hand, they will need the original owner's credentials to unlock it. This will lead to all iPhone components being permanently registered to Apple accounts.
