Wi-Fi cutting out on your iPhone 17? You're not alone - and a fix may still be weeks away
"Some new owners of the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air alike are saying that the Wi-Fi briefly cuts out and then reconnects after the phone is unlocked, as reported on Monday by MacRumors. The issue has also been affecting CarPlay connections in vehicles that use a Wi-Fi connection. So far, affected iPhone 17 users have been chiming in on several different forums, including the Apple Support Community."
"Some people say the problem pops up when they're wearing an Apple Watch. Others have said that using a VPN may be causing the issue. These could be contributing factors, but not necessarily the source of the glitch. Also unknown is the scale of the problem. Though several people are reporting this bug, there aren't signs of it affecting a huge number of iPhone 17 owners, at least not yet."
"Is the new modem to blame? One possible culprit, though, could be the new modem in the latest iPhones. Also: Should you upgrade to Wi-Fi 7? Here's my verdict after testing this next-gen router at home For the iPhone 17, Apple switched from a Qualcomm modem to its own C1X modem. As Apple has been moving to more of its own in-house components, the C1X is supposed to be more power efficient"
Some iPhone 17 owners report that Wi‑Fi briefly cuts out and then reconnects after the phone is unlocked. The issue has affected iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air models and has also disrupted CarPlay connections that use Wi‑Fi. Users have described possible contributing factors including wearing an Apple Watch and using a VPN, though those factors are not confirmed as root causes. The scale of the problem remains unclear but appears limited to the iPhone 17 lineup. Apple switched from a Qualcomm modem to its in‑house C1X modem for iPhone 17, which may be implicated.
