Japan is making Apple allow non-Webkit browsers on iOS
Briefly

Japan's implementation of the Smartphone Act aims to mandate that Apple allows non-WebKit browsers on iOS. The act will ban Apple from blocking or hindering alternative browser engines. Apple must also ensure that third-party browser engines are not rendered impractical or commercially unviable. Furthermore, the act requires Apple to provide third-party browser engines access to the same APIs as WebKit. Users must have the ability to choose their preferred browser through a choice screen after device activation.
Japan is adopting the Smartphone Act to force Apple to permit non-WebKit browsers on iOS, following the EU's Digital Markets Act which promotes browser engine diversity.
The Smartphone Act, effective by December, will prohibit Apple from blocking alternative browser engines, ensuring third-party browsers are equally viable for developers and users.
