Bloomberg: Apple is pausing its Vision Air development and going all-in on smart glasses
"A new report from Bloomberg suggests that Apple has stopped work on the Vision Air and is going all-in on its smart glasses instead, as it aims to expedite its Meta Ray-Ban competing device. According to the report, Apple has begun transitioning engineers from the Vision Air development to the smart glasses project. Based on the previous report, Apple's smart glasses were supposed to enter mass production in Q2, 2027, but we can now expect that date to sometime in 2026."
"The first-generation Apple glasses will offer several material finishes for the temples and frames, and no built-in display. They are set to feature Apple Intelligence with multiple cameras providing Visual Intelligence features. Apple is also working on extended reality (XR) glasses with liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) displays, voice controls and gestures. These are expected to enter mass production in Q2 2028."
Apple has stopped work on the Vision Air and shifted engineers to a smart glasses project, accelerating the device's mass-production timeline from 2027 to 2026. The first-generation smart glasses will lack a built-in display, offer multiple material finishes for temples and frames, and include multiple cameras driving Apple Intelligence and Visual Intelligence features. Apple is simultaneously developing XR glasses that use LCoS displays with voice controls and gesture input. Those XR glasses are planned for mass production in Q2 2028 and will follow the prioritized smart glasses roadmap.
