According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is contemplating collaboration with OpenAI or Anthropic to enhance Siri's AI functionalities. This comes as the company has been struggling to launch an improved version known as "LLM Siri" for which it has enlisted the help of external AI models. Apple appointed Mike Rockwell, previously head of Vision Pro, to lead these efforts after discontent with the previous team. Current tests are evaluating the performance of AI models from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google, with plans still in preliminary stages and possibly retaining in-house models.
For months, Apple has been working to get its AI-enhanced Siri back on track after delaying the overhauled assistant's launch in March.
Rockwell asked his team to test whether Anthropic's Claude, OpenAI's ChatGPT, or Google's Gemini performs better at handling basic requests compared to its own models.
