Apple Prepares Major Siri Upgrade to Add AI Chatbot Capabilities
"Apple is planning its biggest shake-up of the digital assistant since its debut, transforming Siri from a simple voice helper into a full-blown, built-in AI chatbot. According to a Bloomberg report, the tech giant plans to unveil the new version, code-named "Campos," at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, with a public release slated for September alongside the new iPhone series."
"The change is monumental. Today's Siri operates on a set of pre-programmed commands. The new Siri will behave like the chatbots you already know, such as ChatGPT or Google Gemini, but built directly into your device. You'll be able to chat with it by typing or speaking, engaging in back-and-forth conversations to get things done. As Bloomberg explains, this new approach "will go well beyond the abilities of the current Siri.""
Apple will replace Siri's command-based model with a conversational AI assistant code-named Campos. The initial update will add screen analysis, contextual use of personal data, and improved web search while keeping a familiar Siri feel. A fuller Campos release will arrive with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, enabling typed or spoken back-and-forth conversations, device control, analysis of open apps, and operation inside Mail, Photos, and Music. Unveiling is scheduled for WWDC in June with a public release planned for September alongside new iPhones. The shift aims to match rivals' integrated conversational AI.
