The AltStore PAL app marketplace has introduced a porn app called Hot Tub to iOS users in the EU, which Apple claims is a safety risk. Apple states it is 'deeply concerned' about the implications of such apps on user trust and safety, especially for minors. Despite AltStore claiming the app was approved through Apple's notarization process, Apple clarified that it does not endorse the app, highlighting conflicts with its guidelines. The situation underscores challenges posed by the EU's Digital Markets Act, which mandates Apple allow third-party app distribution.
"This app and others like it will undermine consumer trust and confidence in our ecosystem that we have worked for more than a decade to make the best in the world."
"The DMA also does not require that Apple approves apps for distribution, they have chosen to do so themselves," he added, referring to the EU's Digital Markets Act.
