Starting with iOS 18.1, developers will be able to offer contactless transactions from their own apps separate from Apple Pay and Apple Wallet.
Developers will have access to Apple's new NFC and SE technology, allowing various tasks like in-store payments, digital keys, and loyalty rewards.
The NFC access will leverage the Secure Element for privacy and security, ensuring transactions use Face ID or Touch ID for authentication.
To initiate transactions, users can either open the NFC-supported app or set a default contactless option using a double-click on the side button.
