Apple's recent iOS 18.3 update introduces a groundbreaking feature for T-Mobile customers, allowing select users to send text messages via SpaceX's satellite service even in areas without cellular coverage. This capability is presently in beta testing and was previously exclusive to certain Android devices. By updating their iPhones, users can activate this feature and gain access to satellite messaging in remote locations. While the current functionality is limited to text messages, Apple and T-Mobile plan to eventually expand this service to include voice and data options, enhancing communication even further in isolated areas.
You can now stay connected with texting via satellite from virtually anywhere. Update to iOS 18.3 to start experiencing coverage beyond.
The direct-to-cell service currently only offers text messaging, but there are plans to add voice and data connectivity in the future.
