A recent Waymo study reveals that its driverless taxis demonstrate superior safety compared to human-operated vehicles in various urban environments. Analyzing over 56.7 million miles of driving data, Waymo found a significant reduction in accidents, particularly in intersections, with a 96% decrease in reported injuries. Additionally, the robotaxis were 91% less likely to experience airbag deployments compared to human drivers. Although the research has merit, as it is peer-reviewed, it also contains acknowledged limitations that merit further examination.
"A new study from Waymo concluded that riding in a Waymo robotaxi in urban environments is safer than human drivers, showing lower crash rates and injuries."
