Despite federal cutbacks in funding for transportation safety initiatives, states are increasingly adopting Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA) technology to tackle the high rate of crash deaths in the U.S. With statistics showing alarming pedestrian fatalities and high-speed incidents, bipartisan support for ISA is growing among state legislators. Advocates argue that by implementing this technology, they can mitigate speeding-related deaths and ultimately improve safety on the roads, especially as federal initiatives fade under current political leadership.
The safety argument against speeding is ironclad. Blazing-fast vehicles take longer to brake and exert more force in a crash, thereby endangering everyone else on the roadway.
It's really growing much more rapidly than we anticipated, says Amy Cohen, the head of Families for Safe Streets, a national advocacy group backing the various ISA bills.
