"The Brussels public transport company STIB-MIVB has begun deploying the first units from a new batch of electric buses, consisting of 36 standard vehicles that are progressively entering service on routes 47, 56, 58 and 83. The vehicles are part of a wider delivery of 50 battery-electric buses scheduled to enter operation during 2026."
"In the same year the municipal operator was awarded a €475 million in financing from EIB headed to improving public transport offer, including covering the purchase of over 90 e-buses. The first unit entered passenger service at the end of January, with the remaining vehicles scheduled to be deployed on the network by the end of March."
"In addition to the standard vehicles, STIB-MIVB plans to introduce 14 articulated electric buses during the course of the year. These vehicles will join the articulated electric fleet already operating in the city. The articulated electric buses will operate on routes 46, 53, 87 and 89."
STIB-MIVB, Brussels's public transport operator, is expanding its electric bus fleet by deploying 36 standard Mercedes eCitaro buses on routes 47, 56, 58, and 83. These vehicles are part of a larger 50-bus delivery scheduled for 2026 and represent the first units from a 70-bus order placed in 2023. The buses operate without intermediate charging during daily service. Additionally, 14 articulated electric buses will be introduced on routes 46, 53, 87, and 89, utilizing charging infrastructure at depot facilities. With these additions, the total electric bus fleet will exceed 140 units. The expansion is supported by €475 million in European Investment Bank financing aimed at improving public transport infrastructure and purchasing over 90 electric buses.
