"The agreement brings together two areas of expertise: Microvast's experience in the design and manufacture of battery cells, modules, and packs, and Škoda Group's know-how in the engineering and certification of rail and trolleybus vehicles. The partnership will concentrate on creating battery systems tailored to the operational demands of rail transport, with modular flexibility that allows integration into other public transport modes."
""At Škoda Group, we are committed to developing our own battery technology as the cornerstone of our future solutions for zero-emission mobility. The partnership with Microvast combines our in-depth knowledge of transport systems with their cutting-edge battery innovations. This will enable us to manufacture highly competitive products made in Europe. This collaboration not only strengthens our own vehicle portfolio, but also paves the way for offering advanced battery systems to other manufacturers in the industry," said Jaromír Šilhánek, President of Business Units at Škoda Group."
Škoda Group entered a strategic partnership with Microvast to co-develop and produce battery systems for public transport vehicles, initially focusing on rail applications. The battery designs will allow use in other public transport modes, including electric buses. The first prototype vehicle equipped with the jointly developed battery system is expected by the end of 2026. Microvast contributes experience in battery cell, module, and pack design and manufacture. Škoda contributes engineering and certification expertise for rail and trolleybus vehicles. The collaboration targets battery systems tailored to rail operational demands with modular flexibility for wider integration and potential supply to other manufacturers.
