OPINION: Paris the 'new Amsterdam' for cyclists? As a Dutchman, I can tell you it isn't
Briefly

Paris is undergoing a cycling revolution, becoming increasingly bike-friendly like Copenhagen and Amsterdam. A Dutch journalist, living in Paris for two years, utilizes the Vélib' public bike system and enjoys cycling while commuting. They report new bicycle lanes are emerging and recognize biking as a great way to explore the city. However, they caution against lauding Paris as the new Amsterdam due to inconsistent cycling infrastructure and confusing intersections. Despite these issues, biking in Paris can still be a delightful experience, often proving the quickest transport method.
During these two years on the Vélib', I've seen a serious amount of new bicycle lanes arise - my own street is currently under construction - so the city's commitment to the bike cannot be denied.
Biking through Paris can be delightful. But no, that's not because of the infrastructure. Some intersections have been so strangely designed that I'm not even sure where I'm supposed to bike.
