Oakland's Department of Transportation is set to remove one lane from Grand Avenue to enhance safety, a decision met with criticism from Adams Point residents. Residents demand lane removal on both sides for more effective traffic moderation. At a recent community meeting, city planner Charlie Ream indicated that despite community input, the department had already decided on the first option, which would only reduce traffic lanes in one direction. Local organizers had gathered 1,800 signatures advocating for the second option, emphasizing community frustration over the unilateral decision-making process.
I think a lot of people have seized upon the idea that there's still an active kind of, like, seeking input on which alternative to propose.
Earlier in the day, Adams Point organizers sent an email to City Council members, the acting mayor, and the future mayor, with 1,800 signatures from residents and owners of local businesses supporting the second option.
