Nobina Sverige AB placed an order for 180 battery-electric Solaris Urbino buses for operation in Malmö with deliveries slated for 2026–2027. The fleet spans four lengths from a single 12-metre Urbino 12 to 24-metre bi-articulated Urbino 24 models, with battery capacities between 400 kWh and 700 kWh. The order includes 78 Urbino 18 articulated, 36 Urbino 24 bi-articulated, and 65 low-entry Urbino 15 LE buses. Malmö already operates 24-metre bi-articulated buses and is moving toward full fleet electrification. Solaris has supplied over 850 buses in Sweden since 2003, including more than 200 zero-emission vehicles.
According to Solaris, the contract with Nobina Sverige AB (that has won Malmo contract in late 2024) covers vehicles ranging from the standard 12-metre version to the 24-metre bi-articulated model, enabling the operator to tailor the fleet to both urban and suburban services in Sweden's third-largest city. The breakdown includes: 78 articulated Urbino 18 electric buses with 600 kWh batteries 36 Urbino 24 electric buses with 700 kWh packs 65 low-entry Urbino 15 LE electric buses with 500 kWh batteries a single Urbino 12 with 400 kWh on board
Malmö has been an important market for Solaris in recent years. The city is among the few in Europe to deploy 24-metre bi-articulated buses in regular service (they are from Van Hool, out of business in 2024). Previous deliveries included 18-metre e-buses, and with the new order Malmö is moving closer to full fleet electrification.
The partnership with Nobina extends beyond Malmö. In recent years, Solaris supplied 55 electric buses for regional services in Stockholm and 28 units for Nobina Skåne. Earlier in 2025, the operator also ordered 89 Urbino 15 LE electric buses. Solaris has been present in Sweden since 2003. To date, more than 850 Solaris buses have entered service in the country, over 200 of which are zero-emission vehicles.
