New Flyer of America Inc., a subsidiary of NFI Group, has secured orders totaling 117 buses from the Maryland Transit Administration. These orders include both hybrid-electric and battery-electric buses, set for delivery in late 2024 and early 2025. Chris Stoddart, NFI's President, highlighted the benefits of these vehicles in reducing emissions and enhancing sustainability goals. The Maryland Transit Authority is vital for transportation in the Baltimore area, delivering over 75 million passenger trips annually, reinforcing its essential role in the state's public transit framework.
According to a press release: "The Maryland Transit Authority plays a critical role in operating a range of transportation services in the metropolitan Baltimore region..."
NFI and its subsidiaries have delivered over 1,200 buses to the agency over the past 30 years," Chris Stoddart, President, North American Bus and Coach, NFI, said.
The combination of hybrid- and battery-electric buses offers a seamless implementation process, an opportunity to significantly reduce emissions in the short term.
