""You couldn't spend the million dollars any better way in Washington. And they're spending it in a lot of lousy ways right now." - Sen. Chuck Schumer"
""What we want to build is a blueprint that can be replicated across the city. One of the unique things about [the] Deliverista Hub [is] it was designed by workers, based on their needs, based on their necessities." - Ligia Guallpa"
""Last year saw the highest number of fires caused by lithium-ion batteries in the past four years, at 296. That's up from 279 in 2024, according to the FDNY.""
The City Hall Park Deliverista Hub, funded by a $1 million federal grant, provides e-bike delivery workers with a space to charge batteries and access services. It features an outdoor cabinet for 48 batteries and an indoor area for resting, tune-ups, and legal advice. Designed by workers, the hub aims to prevent lithium-ion battery fires, which have increased in recent years. The initiative is part of a broader plan to install similar hubs across the city, enhancing safety and support for the estimated 80,000 e-bike workers.
