Big Bus is transitioning its sightseeing fleet to battery-electric vehicles, with ten electric double-deck buses already in daily operation and a planned fleet of 16 in Vienna by the end of 2025. An earlier plan envisaged adding 40 electric buses across London, Paris and Vienna: 20 new Ankai buses for Paris and Vienna and 20 former combustion buses to be converted to electric drive for London by Equipmake. The Big Bus goes electric project received €1.2 million in FFG funding co-financed by the EU under NextGenerationEU. The initiative is part of eMove Austria, launched July 2025, with a September funding round offering over €80 million and subsidies covering up to 60% of bus price differentials and charging infrastructure costs.
