"Electric buses currently account for 20 percent of our entire fleet. We are confident that we will achieve a fully electric bus fleet by 2030," said Welfizon Yuza, President Director of Transjakarta.
According to Transjakarta's notes, the e-buses can save operational costs by 5-10% with fuel subsidies, leading to savings of 18-20%, making this transition economically viable.
Jakarta has been noted for its high pollution levels, making efforts towards cleaner transport systems crucial, especially as only about 4% of daily trips utilize public transport.
Organizations like UNEP and C40 are aiding Jakarta's ambitious plan to increase public transport usage to 60% and fully electrify the TransJakarta fleet by 2030.
