Compounded Wegovy and Zepbound may disappear under new FDA rules
Briefly

The U.S. is moving to restrict compound versions of popular weight-loss drugs following a federal judge's decision. Dr. Tara Narula discussed how compounding pharmacies created affordable alternatives during shortages, but now that manufacturers like Novo Nordisk have resolved their supply chain issues, these alternatives are deemed illegal. The FDA confirmed the market is stabilized, warning against the safety risks posed by unapproved drugs. Novo Nordisk's president emphasized that patients should not resort to these potentially harmful 'knockoffs' when legitimate medications are available.
No one should have to compromise their health due to misinformation and reach for fake or illegitimate knockoff drugs that pose significant safety risks to patients.
When a drug is in short supply, the FDA allows these compounding pharmacies to essentially create copycat drugs. But...when the drug companies say, 'we are able to meet the demand,' then those compounding pharmacies can no longer sell those drugs.
