"one-billion-dollar USDA cut"
"we've lost approximately 120,000 pounds of high-quality local food."
"the political lines that are primed to interpret anything we do as maybe it's us being on the other side of some imagi"
The Regional Farm to Food Bank program contracted over 200 farmers, ranchers, and other producers under ARPA 2021, purchasing 900,000 pounds of locally sourced food and providing 749,502 meals to vulnerable New Mexicans. Sustainable contracts enabled small and midsize producers to grow and scale for upcoming seasons. USDA termination of the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program will jeopardize RF2FB and similar programs nationwide, threatening sourcing for food banks and schools, curtailing economic opportunities for producers competing with industrial farms, and deepening hardship in rural communities. Midwestern examples show these programs acted as a safety net for extended family and community support.
