Tom Cloman remains a constant at ever-growing Richmond Farmers Market
Briefly

Tom Cloman founded the Richmond Certified Farmer's Market in 1983, creating a space for local farmers to sell seasonal produce. Originally set up in a dirt lot, the market moved in front of the Richmond Library where it operates every Friday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. While the number of visitors has declined due to the rise of other farmer's markets, Cloman believes each market reflects its community's spirit. His background in cooperatives helped him establish and maintain this vital community resource over the past 42 years.
Cloman has remained a constant presence in the Richmond Farmer's Market over the 42 years since its inception, ensuring it reflects the community's heart.
Each market is meant to reflect the heart of the community, and while changes occurred, the essence of the Richmond market has been preserved.
At its peak, thousands of visitors would flock to the Richmond Farmer's Market from across the Bay Area for fresh produce and local goods.
My early experience began in a grocery co-op, which led to my involvement in developing food access programs in at-risk cities.
