Interest-free portion of cash advances maintained at $250 thousand for 2026
"As Canadian producers get ready for the growing season, our government is making sure they have the support and tools they need. By increasing the interest-free portion of the Advance Payments Program, we're helping farmers manage costs, while giving them more flexibility to market their products on their terms."
"Maintaining the $250,000 interest-free portion reflects the realities farmers are facing today. We are seeing continued volatility in input costs, supply chains and global markets, and this type of support is important in helping farmers navigate those pressures."
The federal government is extending the interest-free cash advance limit to $250,000 for non-canola advances in 2026. This marks the fifth consecutive year of increased support for farmers. For canola, the limit was raised to $500,000 for 2025 and 2026 due to tariffs on exports. The higher limit is expected to benefit approximately 8,618 producers, saving them $37.4 million in interest costs. This initiative aims to help farmers manage costs and market their products effectively amid ongoing economic challenges.
