'I sold turf, pigs and cattle at home in Clare - now I run a multimillion-dollar company in the US'
"As the oldest of 11 children, my upbringing was steeped in the practical realities of farm life. I grew up on a working farm in Co Clare, very close to the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin and Lisdoonvarna. We sold turf, we had pigs, and the beef cattle went to the mart in September. My mother sold eggs, she baked, and at Christmas we would have turkeys and geese for sale."
"I always had that entrepreneurial spirit. When I was going to school, I always had two summer jobs - I was never just happy with one job, I always pushed myself."
Martina Curtin grew up as the oldest of 11 children on a working farm in Co Clare near the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin and Lisdoonvarna. The farm sold turf, kept pigs and sent beef cattle to the mart in September. Her mother sold eggs, baked, and sold turkeys and geese at Christmas. Curtin learned hard work and self-reliance through farm responsibilities and early entrepreneurship. She maintained two summer jobs while at school and constantly sought extra work. Her farm experiences instilled practical skills and an entrepreneurial drive that preceded relocation from County Clare to Boston.
