MN: Milan's position among 'top' Europa League teams confirmed amongst others
AC Milan will play in the Europa League from the start of next season rather than entering after being knocked out of the Champions League. In recent years, Milan’s Europa League participation has often come through elimination from the Champions League, which brings larger financial benefits. This time, Milan will not receive that significant boost due to their own circumstances. The Europa League is framed as an unwelcome result of the current season’s failure, and the competition is seen as a chance to salvage pride. Milan will enter as one of the top-ranked teams, but advancement is not guaranteed against strong opponents. The qualified teams include Juventus and Milan from Italy, plus clubs from England, Spain, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, Turkey, Denmark, and Austria.
"Next season, AC Milan will play in the Europa League from the start of the season, as opposed to joining from the Champions League, a rarity. In recent years, Milan's place in the Europa League has been thanks to them being knocked out of the Champions League. Now, whilst that remains the case, it isn't with the financial benefits of the first situation."
"Indeed, the Rossoneri were denied an entry into Europe's premier competition thanks to their own doing. So, they will not get the significant financial boost which it provides and they must try to salvage some pride in the Europa League..."
"It is undeniable that the Europa League is an unwelcome sign of this season's failure; most would probably waive the Rossoneri's entry into the competition if they could, to save more embarrassment. Nevertheless, they will enter the competition as one of the 'top' teams, MilanNews reports. Indeed, they are firmly amongst the top-ranked teams, but this is not a guarantee of advancing far, of course not."
"They will face several teams of quality who do not have the same pedigree and having seen the Diavolo this season, we know that this is not a guarantee of success. Below, the full list of teams in next season's Europa League (at least those qualified now) can be seen. England: Bournemouth, Sunderland; Italy: Juventus, Milan; Spain: Real Sociedad, Celta Vigo; Germany: Hoffenheim, Bayer Leverkusen; France: Marseille, Rennes; Netherlands: AZ., Twente; Portugal: Torreense; Turkey: Trabzonspor; Denmark: Midtiylland; Austria: Salzburg"
