Marble Dominated Milan Design Week
"Alcova has a dual purpose: to bring light to Milan's lost industrial architectural treasures and magnificent villas as venues while showcasing the latest work of international contemporary designers experimenting with materials and form."
"Villa Pestarini's 'rationalist' light-as-air, open-plan architecture features a mix of marble and wood floors and a sherbet-colored glass partition that closes off the living room from the entrance foyer."
"The installation 'Albini in Present Tense,' curated by Patricia Urquiola with Haworth and Cassina, features Albini-designed furniture reissued by Cassina. The carpet is from B&B Italia."
Alcova, founded in 2018, aims to illuminate Milan's architectural heritage while presenting contemporary design. This year, it featured two locations: the Baggio Military Hospital and Villa Pestarini. Villa Pestarini, designed by Franco Albini, showcased a unique open-plan architecture with a blend of materials. The installation 'Albini in Present Tense' highlighted reissued Albini furniture. Alcova will also expand to Mexico City Art Week next February, continuing its mission to merge design with historical context.
