The book stemmed from a suicide attempt in 2021. It's interesting, a lot of the photos feel really euphoric in that they appear overly saturated and blissful, a sort of contradiction to the feelings I was experiencing back then'
When you experience a really low point, photography can become a way to move on from it. The camera became a window to somewhere else, a different world, for a while'
My aesthetic doesn't change even when I'm looking at different subject matter. From documenting the life of my grandad as he was about to pass away, to then going out to the Yorkshire Dales and bringing a load of fireworks or to shooting someone running through the woods'
I do think I'm quite present in the work without ever being there. I always feel like the flash gives more awareness to photography. I guess there's this whole post-documentary thing where you kind of take photos not to document the subject as it is,
