"Sending that email was probably one of the best and most influential decisions of my life: after that I started to work on PyPy, participated in my first EuroPython, moved to Düsseldorf to continue working on PyPy, went back home, got my PhD, moved to Düsseldorf and back again, did many years of freelancing thanks to my OSS experience."
"During my years in Berlin, I started SPy and met my wife. Deciding what is the most important of these two facts is left as an exercise to the readers."
Twenty years ago, a commitment to Open Source began with a master's thesis on PyPy. The initial commit was made in 2006 using subversion, later transitioning to mercurial and git. Early interactions with the PyPy team led to numerous opportunities, including participation in EuroPython, obtaining a PhD, and freelancing. Personal milestones include moving to Düsseldorf, meeting a spouse in Berlin, and establishing SPy. Reflecting on these experiences, the decision to contribute to Open Source is deemed highly beneficial.
