Google will roll out Chrome's new extension spec next week
Briefly

Google is phasing out the old Manifest V2 system on the Chrome Beta, Dev, and Canary channels to transition to Manifest V3. The gradual change will eventually lead to ending support for V2 extensions and disabling them before completely removing their functionality.
Manifest V3 has raised concerns about potentially decreasing the effectiveness of ad blockers. Google addresses this by adding support for user scripts and increasing rulesets for the declarativeNetRequest API, aiming to mitigate these worries and enhance security by eliminating remotely hosted code.
85% of actively maintained extensions in the Chrome Web Store have already converted to Manifest V3, which includes popular ad blockers like AdBlock, Adblock Plus, uBlock, and AdGuard. Google aims for a full rollout of Manifest V3 changes by the beginning of 2025.
