On Monday, George Santos pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud and identity theft as part of a plea agreement, avoiding a criminal trial with a sentencing set for February 7.
Santos faced 23 counts, including fraud and money laundering, after being accused of stealing credit card information from political donors and falsifying campaign records in a series of schemes.
The court's decision follows months of negotiations for a plea deal, which had been anticipated after Santos' fraud victims were informed of his plea on Friday.
Santos's plea requires him to pay restitution of at least $373,749, and he could face up to eight years in prison as per the judge's statement.
