Scientists warn Great Barrier Reef could disappear in next 30 years
Briefly

Researchers found that ocean temperatures surrounding the Great Barrier Reef are now the hottest in at least 400 years, with a 0.34 degrees Fahrenheit increase above the previous record high.
'If humanity does not divert from its current course, our generation will likely witness the demise of one of Earth's great natural wonders,' said Benjamin Henley, the lead author of the study.
The research team used long-lived corals to reconstruct sea surface temperatures and concluded that temperatures in the Coral Sea have significantly increased since 1960, posing a severe threat to the reef.
'From 1960 to 2024, we observed annual average summer warming of 0.216F per decade,' researchers stated, linking this rise to human-driven climate change.
