Swedish unemployment continues to rise

At the end of June, Sweden's unemployment rate stood at 6.9 percent, a rise from the previous year, with 336,000 people registered as unemployed. Statistics indicate that this figure represents an increase of about 19,000 individuals compared to the same time last year. The Public Employment Service predicts that unemployment will not continue to increase past this year and may begin to decline in 2026. Significant increases in unemployment were noted particularly in the construction and private service industries, while the rate for young people aged 18 to 24 remained stable since the previous year.
At the end of June, a total of 336,000 people were registered as unemployed with Sweden's Public Employment Service, indicating a rise of 19,000 from the previous year.
The unemployment rate in Sweden reached 6.9 percent, marking an increase of 0.3 percentage points since June 2024, according to statistics from the agency.
Lars Lindvall noted that the construction and private service industries have been the hardest hit by the recent low growth in the economy.
Despite the overall increase in unemployment, the rate for young people ages 18 to 24 remained stable at 7.8 percent, which is only slightly higher than the previous year's 7.7 percent.
