Toys R Us has revealed it will be opening a further 37 new stores in the UK before Christmas this year, following a relaunch and expansion plans. The toy shop chain went bust in February 2018, shutting down 100 shops and resulting in significant job losses. Despite these setbacks, the company is set to capitalize on the Christmas season with new openings every week, indicating a strong demand for its products once again.
Sean Toal, managing director of WHSmith High Street, expressed pride in bringing Toys R Us back to the UK, highlighting nearly 40 years of the brand's legacy. He noted the recent success of reopening stores, mentioning enthusiastic customer response and picturesque queues during store openings, which underscores the nostalgic value the brand holds for many. Toal emphasized that bringing back Toys R Us aligns with providing unique offerings in the festive season.
Michelle Phillips, WHSmith's toys and games buying manager, emphasized the variety of products available at Toys R Us, targeting diverse family needs. She predicted that Squishmallows would be a top-selling item this Christmas due to their popularity among consumers. In addition, she mentioned the creative offerings like the new game from Ladbaby that humorously reflects the brand's identity, aiming to attract both young customers and families during the holiday shopping period.
