2024 NextGen in PR and Marketing: Meredith Strider - Birmingham Business Journal
Briefly

Using my knowledge and experience to help others has been incredibly rewarding. Working as co-founder and vice president of Birmingham Social Media Club, I assist professionals in finding jobs and networking. Recently, I've had the chance to teach marketing to students. These experiences have clarified my career purpose—not just to achieve goals but to help others succeed.
I've realized that at the core of effective leadership is the ability to listen. Everyone desires to be seen and heard, and acknowledging this is key to building a collaborative work environment. Effective listening allows leaders to connect with their teams and fosters a culture where everyone feels valued, enriching workplace dynamics.
As I aspire to be a CMO or Director of Marketing in the beverage or wine industry, I'm excited about the challenges ahead. The industry's current struggle to connect with younger consumers presents an opportunity for innovation. I'm currently pursuing WSET certifications to deepen my understanding of viticulture and winemaking, reinforcing my commitment to this career path.
To attract young professionals, employers need to focus on flexibility and competitive compensation. Many get sidetracked by peripheral perks reminiscent of tech giants, but what's truly important is fair pay and allowing employees to manage their schedules. This straightforward approach resonates more with the current workforce than extraneous benefits that don’t impact daily work life.
