Teachers fear 'hostile takeover' amid plans to close primary schools
Briefly

At a cabinet meeting, Hackney Council decided to consult on proposals to shut two maintained primary schools and consider merges due to falling pupil numbers.
'The planned closures were incredibly difficult proposals to bring forward, but the council had no other option,' stated Mayor Caroline Woodley during the meeting.
Cathy McKenzie, a teacher at Sir Thomas Abney, expressed deep concern, stating, 'I hope you appreciate the pain that a lot of us are going through.'
Senior admin officer Debjani Mitra questioned the decision, suggesting that instead of closing schools, a new one of equal participation could be established.
