Man charged over arson attack at former synagogue

Moses Edwards, 45, of Wanstead, has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life after the East London Central Synagogue building in Whitechapel was targeted on 5 May. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court later today.

Two arrested over arson attack at former synagogue in east London

Two people have been arrested by counter-terrorism officers investigating an arson attack at a former synagogue in east London. A 45-year-old man and a woman, 52, were arrested on Sunday on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson and have been taken into police custody. Police and firefighters were called to the fire at 5.16am on Tuesday at the former East London Central Synagogue in Whitechapel. Minor damage was caused to a set of gates and a lock at the front of the building. No one was injured.

A 750 million new neighbourhood could be built in east London

Last month, plans were submitted for Whitechapel Healthcare and Research Campus, a £750m development that would provide homes for key workers and supposedly address needs for more green spaces and community facilities. The proposal for the campus comes from investment firm BGO in collaboration with PLP Architecture and Barts Health NHS Trust. It's part of the newly announced Barts Life Science Cluster.

UKIP banned again from holding a reclaim London' protest amid serious disorder fears

The UK Independence Party has again been banned from holding a mass deportations tour protest in east London because of fears there could be clashes with locals. Metropolitan Police officers imposed Public Order Act conditions preventing the Whitechapel march going ahead on January 31, telling the party to find a less provocative location in the capital. It is the second time in three months that a Ukip march has been stopped.
