Curtis, a senior at Nashville (Tennessee) Christian School, is the No. 5 overall recruit in the 2026 ESPN 300. Multiple sources told ESPN earlier on Tuesday that Curtis' intention was to commit to the hometown Commodores during this week's earlier signing period before closing his high school career at Nashville Christian School in the Division II-A state championship Thursday night.

As college football teams take the field Saturday, a potentially hectic final month before the early signing period for the 2026 recruiting class will already be officially underway. Thirty-two days remain before the Dec. 3-5 early signing period, the first opportunity class of 2026 commits have to sign with programs. Between now and then, the temperature is set to rise as top uncommitted prospects and flip targets visit campuses over the final four weeks of the college football regular season.

It's not supposed to care that Vanderbilt hasn't been 7-1 in 84 years. The 12 people in that room will absolutely care, though, that Vanderbilt is 7-1 now -- with back-to-back wins against ranked SEC opponents LSU and Missouri. Vanderbilt -- the story of the season so far -- is on the brink of making its first appearance in any CFP ranking during the playoff era.
